Nice quaint venue. Only 7 tables on the main floor but more upstairs and outside seating if not too hot. Just stopped in for dessert and drink, both of which were well made and enjoyable. Staff was courteous and attentive to all those that remained I. The hour up until til closing on a Tuesday. Recommend the tiramisu for something lighter, as the portion isn't too large. The affogato looked delicious and the cocktail was spot on.
Mama Mia(chefs kiss) the food hear was sent straight from heaven!! We ordered takeout-endive salad with pasta and branzino. The fish was perfectly cooked and flavorful. The vegetables were perfect. The salad was a perfect combo of greens and pears. My kids enjoyed the pasta. You know they are legit Italians when they give you a lot of bread! Generous bread provided and two different types of my favorite was the focaccia. I will be back for sure.
Great experience, great food. Everything we ordered was delicious. The bread came with an incredible house spread, which was a mix of tomato and pepper. For appetizer, we got a corn polenta with truffle and cream; it was deliciously rich without being overwhelming. For pastas, we got the tagliatelle with mushroom, spinach & ricotta gnocchi, maltagliati with veal ragu, and spaghettoni with braised leeks. Each had great texture and great flavor, and the portions were generous. For dessert, highly recommend both the torta di ricotta (airy and fluffy, while still being creamy) and torta al cioccolato (dense and smooth, bittersweet). For drinks, the Firenze was refreshing with a strong pear flavor, but without being too fruity. Service was very friendly. The atmosphere was rustic and homey and welcoming.
So good! This was rich in flavor while the pasta was thin and light. Perfect for sharing.
Enjoyed a really pleasant dinner with wife, son and his buddy. I'm retired chef so I really appreciate the simplicity of a minimal ingredient meal executed well with a service team that's attentive & aware and yet, invisible! Pepolino provides this experience perfectly. The space itself is rustic & romantically lit with several ceiling sound dampeners which were very appreciated. We shared an endive salad with pear & toasted walnuts that was delicious. I ordered exactly what I wanted...a well executed homemade pasta dish...Pappardelle Al Pepolino ("Pepolino" Tomato Sauce & Fresh Thyme). Simply an excellent plate of pasta. My wife had the spinach & ricotta ravioli that was light & lovely, my son's friend ordered the gnocchi (which is usually a disappointment everywhere in my experience) but was excellent! It's really simple to overthink...but Pepolino makes excellence a simple expectation. I strongly advise a visit...but you'll owe ME if you heed my counsel!
We almost left Pepolino within the first 15 min of being seated, as we were placed next to a large table where two snooty, wealthy, WASPy Karens were gabbing and ignoring their misbehaving daughters who were wreaking havoc in the general vicinity and disturbing everyone nearby (esp. us). Ugh. Talk about a living birth control ad. We eventually got the staff to move us to another area, and things were immediately better from there. But I felt bad for the couple that got seated at our old table. Pepolino staff: If parents won't reign in their bratty children, you need to do something. I promise the backlash from one or two parents will be balanced out by the many more diners who will appreciate you for taking action. Anyway, the food. The Zuppa Di Porri & Patate is scrum-diddly-umptious and perfect for cold winter nights. But the Cozze Al Burro was the best dish by far. The garlicky parsley sauce was everything your Mediterranean-loving heart could want, and the fact that they de-shell their mussels is just cherry for lazy diners like me. Pasta-wise, the Tagliatelle Ai Funghi Porcini was one of the more flavorful mushroom pastas I've had, while the Fettuccine Al Coniglio provided much-needed rabbit heartiness. The portions were pretty substantial too. We skipped drinks and dessert, but overall, I wouldn't rule out a comeback. I might bring my own privacy screens though, to block out wayward children.
Pros: - Large restaurant with extensive outdoor seating - Great for work dinners or if eating solo. Multiple large work groups were eating during our service. Also has bar seating if you want to grab a quick meal. -Service was great and our waiter was attentive. Also able to split the check multiple ways Overall, the food was good, but not amazing. The linguine Nere di mar was good, but felt as if it was lacking something.
Love this restaurant!!! The service was awesome & the server was such a nice guy. There was nice Italian music playing, but the restaurant still felt quiet. The food was awesome and I would absolutely go back. We opted out of dessert, but the server said we couldn't leave without trying the cheesecake and brought us a slice on him!
Amazing Italian restaurant nestled in the area of Tribeca. Customer service started off a bit rough, but eventually was really good. The ambiance was very much so a "mom and pop" type restaurant. You can see the character all over the walls of this place. I highly recommend the ravioli pasta. It has a spinach & ricotta filling that is to die for. Cocktails were really good and refreshing. My favorite part was dessert. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the name of it; but I will post a picture so you can show the waiter/waitress. It was the best dessert I've ever had at any Italian restaurant. I would describe it as a vanilla custard filled with fresh raspberries along with crushed pistachio nuts and powdered sugar on top. It was absolutely incredible!
